If You Wish

If you wish to care for me,

Ask me not how I am

Nor what I think,

For this draws me into mind,

If I am not careful.

Ask me to experience, now,

Or what is known, through experience,

For this unites me with myself.

In mind, we get lost in concepts, explanations, stories;

An idea of me, and time.

When experiencing, there are smells, sounds, sensations, knowings — and perhaps, a lovely smile.

Yet, when experiencing, there is not even these things,

For they are not distinguished by thought

Nor contained by word

Nor separated by name,

And so there is nothing between us.

If you wish to care for me,

Ask me not how I am

Nor what I think,

For this draws me into mind,

If I am not careful.

Ask me to experience, now,

Or what is known, through experience,

For this unites me with myself.
