Finding Ourselves

And so we go to school to see

If we might find the people we

Get told we need to be, to be

Deserving of society.

And so we go to work to search

For a purpose of some worth,

Which brings some satisfaction first,

Before we find a cause to curse.

And so we go to pubs to find

If we can’t leave our cares behind,

But at the bottom of our pints

Lurks a vicious voice inside.

And so we go to church to pray

To God to send our pains away,

But as we kneel in disarray,

We spot another spiritual way.

And so we go to friends to give

A listening ear to what they live,

And as we see another shift,

We start to feel our spirits lift.

And so we go to neighbours to ask

If we can’t help them with a task,

And as we see their state advance,

We notice how we like to dance.

And so we go to groups to lead,

To find ourselves in others needs,

To lose our me’s in joyful deeds,

And be who we were meant to be.

And so we go to beds to rest,

With inner peace no one can test,

For we are breathing for what’s best,

For all beings on Mother Earth

No matter what comes next.
